CHARACTER(S): N/A

IC

NAME: Wriothesley
AGE: Somewhere in his thirties.
SUITABILITY: N/A
CANON: Genshin Impact
CANON POINT: End of 4.1 Archon Quests

ABILITIES:
Hand-to-Hand Combat: Wriothesley is a highly skilled boxer. He has spent a good amount of his life having to fight for survival. He also considers boxing more of a way of life than just a hobby or recreational activity. He was basically the reigning champion in the Pankration Ring, though he rarely actually participates nowadays (his character demo shows that he will still fight once in awhile though).

Stamina: Wriothesley has incredibly high stamina. I wouldn't say it is inhuman (he is very much human), but being a boxer means needing to be able to get through multiple rounds. He should have impressively high stamina as a human.

Cryo Vision: (NOTE: He does not have access to this and anything below at the moment due to not arriving with his Vision) Wriothesley was blessed with a Cryo Vision when he was a teenager. This means that he can utilize the power of Cryo (ice magic). As a Cryo Catalyst user, his punches are imbued with ice magic and he has been shown to shoot out shards of ice/icicles. He probably can apply ice magic in other ways, but the game rarely shows characters using their Visions outside of combat. Below I've taken his abilities and skills in-game and applied their uses that makes sense in RP. Wriothesley can utilize ice magic in a multitude of ways outside of his skills, but he seems like someone who uses it in a practical manner and isn't one to flaunt his abilities around.

Icefang Rush: This is treated as a gap closer in-game. It is described as Wriothesley adjusting his breathing, rhythm, and pace as he sprints forward. It is used to activate Chilling Penalty.

Chilling Penalty: In-game, this increases Wriothesley's interruption resistance. We can see this as him using his Cryo Vision to make him sturdier and able to tank more hits and also increase the strength of his hits. It also affects his health, so it is likely his body also taking damage from his use of Cryo. A bit of a double-edged sword.

Darkgold Wolfbite: By focusing his energy and magic into one impressive punch, he can send out a huge ice attack. It has been shown to be able to freeze entire areas and he was able to freeze a giant wave of water coming his way. This requires a decent amount of energy and wind up.

VICES:
Merciless: While Wriothesley is mild mannered as a person, he is not without his flaws. While Wriothesley is loathed to use violence to solve problems and would rather solve things peacefully, he is not afraid to use force to solve issues that cannot be solved without them. It was shown from a young age that he was willing to commit murder for what he believed in and that has not changed as he has gotten older. He has offered to deal with criminals personally in Neuvillette's story quest and he has threatened to kill troublemakers in his own story quest. To him, these are things that he must be willing to do for the betterment of others. He is shown that he is willing to do anything for his ideals, even if that means to bloody his hands.

Difficult: There isn't really a better word for this other than that Wriothesley is a difficult man to deal with at times. He is a sharp man and this means that when it comes to business, he knows very well how people work, knows very well what he wants, what he is willing to compromise and what he isn't willing to compromise. It is noted by a few characters that discussing things with him is an exhausting process. It doesn't help that he is someone who can be hard to get ahold of on top of also being difficult to deal with. While he has a fairly easygoing personality, that isn't to say he's a pushover. He has a prison to take care of and one cannot show weakness lest he wants shark to smell blood in the water. It makes him a bit of an enigma and has people struggling with approaching him or knowing how to handle him. It shows in the way that he keeps cards up his sleeves and only reveals them when he decides he wants to.

Solitary: A lot of Wriothesley is shrouded in mystery. There is an extent on being private and Wriothesley is someone who toes the line into a little too far. No one but himself knows who he was before he took on his new identity and almost no one knows much about his past crimes. Sure, the former shouldn't matter since that was a person he has long since buried, but it does show that Wriothesley keeps a lot of personal information to himself and seldom lets anyone in. Wriothesley's inability to fully trust gets in the way of him being able to fully connect with others. There's always a wall of some sort that he puts between him and others. Even when he presents information about himself, he is quick to brush it off or try to move on. He's able to read people and empathize and even relate to things, but it is difficult for others to get closer or relate when he makes himself so sparse to others. Being truly vulnerable in front of someone just doesn't happen and it seems like it'll be awhile for anyone to get through the wall he has built.

VIRTUES:
Worldly: It is said by another character that the administrator of the Fortress of Meropide is more worldly than he looks. This is not so off the mark about Wriothesley. The man is rather experienced and knowledgeable of the world and how it works. He understands the value of money, but more importantly, he understands the value of people and never to undervalue them. He has a good understanding of how the world seems to function, the systems in place, and a sophisticated grasp of everything around him. Wriothesley is very honed in on the physiological and psychological needs of people and seemingly has knowledge that extends far beyond than what one would expect from an orphan who never left Fontaine. It is this knowledge that he is able to care for the people in the Fortress and to make sure all their needs are met, while keeping good relations with Fontaine and those that reside in the Overworld.

Resilient: Resilient is probably one of the best words to describe Wriothesley. His life growing up had been entrenched in tragedy from the get go. From being an orphan who were taken in by foster parents that saw him as a cow to slaughter. His eventual living off the streets after running away and broadening his skillsets to eventually be able to kill them. It doesn't stop there as he almost died from the altercation. Instead of finding reprieve, he was convicted (something he plead guilty to) and whisked away to live his sentence in an underground prison. The prison itself was also such a dog eat dog world that all he can do is to scrape out a living with the goal to change it all for the better. Every step from his beginnings to making the man he was now was built on an unfettered strength of a person who simply refused to give up. The astounding thing is that it did not harden his heart either. Instead, he grew up to be a fine man with a kind heart. Though he has suffered, he still sees hope in the future and he aims to avoid having others suffer as he did if possible. It is this that has him still fighting forward. Not for himself, but for the future of others.

Selfless: Protective. Caring. There's a lot of words with similar ideology, but selfless is a good word for Wriothesley. A lot of his actions can be seen as selfless and there has been very little times where Wriothesley has tried to take credit for what he had done for any sort of praise or thank yous. It is seen as early as him killing his foster parents to stop the continued suffering of the children they took in. His want to make changes and reform for the prison so that the prisoners did not have to suffer the way they did before (and when he had been an inmate). His strong urge for people to find rebirth and make changes to their life while in the Fortress. And the construction of the large airship project he keeps hidden with the hope to ferry all of Fontaine to safety if the prophecy of Fontaine being drowned were to come true. Everything he had worked towards to is for the betterment and survival of the people.

SURVEY

▶ I REGULARLY MAKE NEW FRIENDS.
▷ 4. Wriothesley is a pretty easygoing guy all things considered. He's got a friendly attitude for the most part, which makes him easy to befriend. On the flipside though, he is someone who can make himself scarce and he's someone who has difficulties trusting people which would get in the way of befriending others. Because of his role as a warden for an underwater prison and making himself scarce, it would be considerably difficult to get ahold of him if it isn't official business.

▶ SEEING OTHER PEOPLE CRY MAKES ME WANT TO CRY TOO.
▷ 5. Wriothesley isn't a heartless person, but he wouldn't go as far as wanting to cry seeing other people cry. Growing up in such a harsh and unforgiving world, it's more likely that he had tamped down such feelings for the sake of survival. Crying would be weakness in a dog eat dog world after all. He merely didn't have the luxury of such vulnerability and being in a position of power means he has to keep himself together so that he can keep others together in moments of grief.

▶ I OFTEN MAKE A BACKUP PLAN FOR A BACKUP PLAN.
▷ 1. Wriothesley is shown to be rather crafty and calculating. It seems like he's often very aware of what is happening around him and seems to constantly be figuring out how to handle things. In the main story, Wriothesley is already aware that the main character is a guest of Neuvillette (the Chief Justice who has the main character sent to prison on a false crime to have them investigate on his behalf) and works with it. He also is aware that the Fatui children in his prison were also snooping around, but acted like he knew nothing. When danger hit, he already had contingency plans in place to make sure no true harm came to the trio despite them infiltrating his territory.

▶ I USUALLY STAY CALM, EVEN WHEN UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE.
▷ 1. You ever watch the pressure valve gate that was holding a raging sea that would dissolve the people of your entire nation (and yourself) if it were to fail get slammed open and said sea gushing out? Freezing it and then running through multiple sluice gates closing in front of you and if you aren't fast enough, you'll be dissolved? How about staring at a sluice gate that you completely froze up with your snazzy ice powers because you are the last line of defense between the sea that will dissolve everyone and your nation? And you have to keep reapplying ice magic to keep that door frozen for who knows how long? You don't know when help will come? Anyways, Wriothesley is definitely a man who has been under all kinds of pressure and has weathered through it everytime. He's a man who is always ready to be at the head of the helm and help keep things under control. It is often seen time and time again and shows how befitting he is to be in the position of power that he's in.

▶ I AM VERY SENTIMENTAL.
▷ 4. While he has his bouts of nostalgia and thoughts of the past, Wriothesley is in an odd spot when it comes to this topic. Wriothesley is a self made man in every sense of the word. He had thrown his entire past away the day he was convicted and sent down to prison. He had thrown away his old name, his birthday, and anything that had attached him to the child he was before. While he had thought about his past before, he's very quick to dismiss those thoughts and feelings. Any slight yearning about people from his past are quickly discarded. To him, these people were no longer anyone involved in his new life and he imagines that he is a past they wish to forget.

▶ EVEN A SMALL MISTAKE CAN CAUSE ME TO DOUBT MY OVERALL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE.
▷ 5. Wriothesley is simply a confident person. He knows his strengths and he knows his weaknesses. I think more than anything, he understands people quite well and understands that people naturally make mistakes. Wriothesley is also in such a high position of power and he is in charge of caring for countless people that he probably can't let himself be burdened by small mistakes. Too many people are relying on him. Doubt will merely slow him down.

▶ I AM MORE INCLINED TO FOLLOW MY HEAD THAN MY HEART.
▷ 3. It can be said that Wriothesley kind of fits in the middle of this. A lot of his actions are rather logical. He does things carefully and isn't the kind to half ass things. He's a sharp guy and has to keep a lot in mind when he's getting anything done. That being said, one cannot ignore that a lot of Wriothesley's actions have heart in it. He deeply cares about people and one could say that he is always following his heart deep down. After all, Wriothesley's core memory during his childhood is probably when he killed his foster parents. He did not leave it to the law or authorities to bring these people to justice, but chose to do it by his own hands. Because he felt like there was no justice to be served unless he did it himself. This was after running away and preparing himself for the eventual atercation before returning to go through with the act. He also could have easily gotten rid of the young Fatui children when they tried to infiltrate, but ultimately went out of his way to make sure they were mostly unharmed. He has a lot of heart, caring immensely for Fontaine's people. Wriothesley just happens to understand that he has to be logical with his decisions too.

▶ I AM PRONE TO WORRYING THAT THINGS WILL TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE.
▷ 4. Wriothesley's viewpoint of things is very interesting. He doesn't worry about things taking a turn for the worse, but he also isn't someone who acts like it won't happen. He has a realistic viewpoint that bad things will happen and that it is unavoidable, but that he sees them as things that can be overcome and conquered. He doesn't worry about them and looks at them straight on.

▶ I ENJOY WATCHING PEOPLE ARGUE.
▷ 5. Wriothesley really is a nip it in the bud kind of guy. Given that he has to make sure that the Fortress is running smoothly, he probably deals with problems as swiftly as possible. Arguments need to be dealt with as quickly as possible and resolved as best as possible. I don't think he finds much enjoyment in it at all and would rather that people try to mostly get along. He would prefer everyone be reasonable than for things to escalate and force his hand.

▶ I TEND TO AVOID DRAWING ATTENTION TO MYSELF.
▷ 1. Fontaine has a love for theatre and dramatics. They love a good drama and show. This makes Wriothesley really quite a rarity as he hates being in the limelight. He would much prefer to disappear into the background to the point that he seldom is noticed in the crowd when he does venture out of the Fortress and into Fontaine. After taking over the Fortress of Meropide as the new administrator, his efforts eventually granted him the title of Duke. Wriothesley had declined the ceremony and had tactfully cited that his duties would make it difficult. After a period of correspondence, it was eventually agreed and he had simply signed any paperwork required and taken any certificates necessary to accept his title.

His stance on such matters is consistent throughout story. He constantly declines any interviews and the one time he agrees to some form of interview, it isn't centered around him but others and their achievements. Wriothesley tactfully pushes the spotlight onto others and blends back into the background. It is called out by one or two characters.

Quite un-Fontainian of him, really, to dislike the spotlight and prefer to just muddle along.

▶ I OFTEN DO THINGS AT THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT.
▷ 5. Wriothesley is much too proactive to wait to do things at the last possible moment. It would be the opposite of how he always has backup plans. He had done a bit of snooping around when it came to the Fortress when he basically inherited it. While he only had educated guesses to work with about the pressure valve gate and what it held, he had already formulated a contingency plan incase it was what he feared and because of Fontaine's prophecy that said Fontaine would be flooded. It's why he had a large ship being built to hopefully carry Fontaine's people to safety. It more so seems like he's always prepared for any possible situation than for someone who does things last minute.

▶ I FIND IT EASY TO EMPATHIZE WITH A PERSON WHOSE EXPERIENCES ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM MINE.
▷ 1. Wriothesley is someone who can empathize with others no matter the difference in experiences. He had seen his fair share of suffering throughout the years. He had suffered quite bit himself. Wriothesley had gone out of his way to reform the Fortress of Meropide to its current iteration so that people may have a second chance at a decent life as long as they are willing to follow the rules he has put in place. It seems like he has a rather good read on people and uses that ability to help or make decisions. It is seen when he dove into old files of past inmates for Neuvillette to help put their mental anguish to rest; something that he did not have to do, yet did for Neuvillette's sake. It shows in his character story where he knew something was astray and it was affecting inmates and dealing with the issues that arose. Wriothesley is a very protective person who understands the plights of others well.

▶ I BECOME BORED OR LOSE INTEREST WHEN THE DISCUSSION GETS HIGHLY THEORETICAL.
▷ 4. While Wriothesley definitely is a guy who is more hands on in his approaches, he doesn't seem like the type who gets bored over such things. Maybe it's also because in his position, he has to take into account of everything. That includes the theoretical. I also find that he probably considers them from time to time himself, as one of his desires he can't ever have is a happy childhood, so it is inevitable that he has probably considered theoretical situations that simply could never come true.

▶ I RARELY FEEL INSECURE.
▷ 1. Wriothesley has his insecurities as much as the next person, but he's rather real and honest about everything. Rather than be insecure, Wriothesley is pretty forthcoming about his shortcomings. He doesn't seem to make a show about it either. He knows what he is good at and what he isn't good at. His voicelines in game have shown this with how he is upfront that he isn't great at most things, but notes he is good at finding people who are good at things he isn't and getting them to work for him.

▶ I AM STILL BOTHERED BY MISTAKES I MADE A LONG TIME AGO.
▷ 5. Wriothesley's whole character is about rebirth. His whole idea for the Fortress and the changes he made for it is a chance for someone to start anew. He probably has some regrets and wishes that will live with him until his dying breath, but it is very much shown that he has very much moved on from his past. The person he was before he took on the name Wriothesley had long since been abandoned. His name, birthday, and everything was forged by his own hand.

Whatever mistakes he had made in the past he had already made amends with. He seems to be a man who is always on the present and thinking of the future and rarely lamenting about the past.
