[ yinyue-jun cares little for the act of taking brides, and the truth of what becomes of them might surprise most of the villagers, but they certainly do not come to harm. this village is not the only one the dragon oversees, but the entire nation - still, it is the sacred duty of wriothesley's particular village to supply to him a mate, every hundred years or so.

those years pass so quickly, to a creature like dan feng - between the death of his previous bride and the offering of this one, it had felt like a breath of time. the dragon had peered upon the offered child and pitied her for her mussed appearance and the clear disdain her guardians had for her, but it is not his place to meddle in the simple affairs of humans. he is the god of rain, the protector of the realm as a whole, and free will is a precious, ugly thing.

the years that pass between wriothesley's first presentation to him and his arrival on the mountain feel even shorter still. the great dragon sleeps in a cool, clear lake, the moon and stars above reflected clearly on its placid surface, but he knows well the sound of his arrays being breached. the energy stirs, but does not attack, for his mate-to-be carries a sacred medallion, and only its bearer is able to reach this summit unimpeded. it's time.

once he feels the presence of his bride draw near, dan feng stirs beneath the waters, the surface rippling as he moves beneath it and begins to emerge, his long, sinuous body shimmering with moisture, iridescent scales glittering beneath the slanting moonlight. he shakes his head, water droplets raining from his thick mane, and approaches the small figure of his bride, wrapped in wedding scarlets, dipping down to lower his gaze to her shape, rivulets of lakewater streaming through the ridges of his scales. ]

You've come.

[ his resonant voice is a smooth purr, deep and rumbling in his chest as yinyue-jun draws himself fully from the lake to better survey his fresh offering. ]
