There is one thing he can test right now, though. He channels a small amount of cursed energy through his body, just to make sure that he can. Nothing seems to be impeding him. He dispels it again as quickly. If there is anything preventing the use of abilities, it must not be present or active throughout the building.
With that confirmation, he returns his attention to the stack of gifts. Are they just another prop for this absurd set-up, a trap, or something else? He's not sensing any cursed energy from them. Which doesn't mean there can't be a bomb or some other danger inside, but he deems the risk low enough to pick up one of the boxes and gingerly peel back the wrapping.
